The five members of The Black Market Trust imbue each performance with an obvious love of music bringing a contagious, upbeat, toe tapping joy. These live performances are a hallmark of the group as they tour wide and far across the U.S.

Their debut album “The Black Market Trust,” has become a milestone in the genre of gypsy jazz. Their music is featured on TV shows like the ABC television series “Happy Endings” and the Hulu original program “Casual.” The band features the Django Reinhardt inspired gypsy sound of acoustic instruments, and infuses classics from the Great American Songbook with intricate vocal harmonies inspired by The Beach Boys. Their sophomore album “II” produced a Top Ten hit on the Adult Contemporary charts with a signature version of “Route 66”.

The pair are known for their stunning original instrumentals, electrifying improvisation, beautiful renditions of classic melodies, and superb vocal duets. Loren and Mark’s diverse repertoire draws on many musical influences- including Americana, Jazz, Classical, Bluegrass, Gypsy Jazz. Their unique style of guitar playing is largely built upon the thumb-picking techniques pioneered by guitar greats Merle Travis and Chet Atkins. Jeff Peterson is a guitar professor at the University of Hawaii in Manoa and has contributed tracks to two grammy award winning albums. He has played with Eric Clapton, Boz Scaggs, and legendary ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro. Recognized as one of Hawaii’s most versatile musicians, Jeff Peterson is at the heart of the Hawaiian music scene today. His passion for the guitar has allowed him to shine as a solo artist and has given him the opportunity to collaborate with a wide variety of artists from Hawaii, across the US, and abroad. His focus on Slack Key guitar, classical, and jazz music has allowed him to develop a unique and transcendent voice on the guitar while being deeply rooted in the traditions of his Hawaiian heritage. Five of Jeff’s compositions were featured in the movie “The Decendants” starring George Clooney.
